About Gestalta
Gestalta was introduced to shibari for the first time in 2007.
Since then, she has worked in kinbaku as a rigger, model and self suspension artist, performing and/or teaching around the world including the UK and Europe, Australia and Japan.
She absorbed much of her technical rigging style from observation and experience during the 3 years she spent modelling for top Japanese nawashi Kazami Ranki, but doesn’t follow any ryu (school / style) religiously, instead preferring to mix and evolve elements from different styles - particularly those that she found worked well for her during her time as a model.
As a teacher, she draws on her experience as both a rigger and a model so that she can give students a perspective from both sides of the rope.

Event description and programme
Event description and programme:
This course is aimed at those who already have a little experience in tying, but are beginning to think about advancing further - possibly into suspensions or partial suspensions.
We’ll be going into detail on one style of 3 rope gote - breaking it down and examining each part of the structure, and thinking carefully about how to position and tension each part - with the end goal of every participant being able to tie a solid, suspension worthy harness.
In addition to this, I’ll be showing you a variety of commonly used ties, and explaining their uses both as ties in their own right and as great technical exercises for helping you to become fluent in tying with good tension on various different parts of the body including:
- variations on the futomomo
- a hip harness and body harness
- hishi patterns
- hojo cuffs
We will be looking at 2 simple, but fun, partial suspensions, which will give you things to practice in preparation for your first suspension, but are also a safe and enjoyable option for play in their own right.
Other elements included:
- quick releases
- hair ties
- basic strappado positions
- agura shibari
Skill level required / minimum knowledge of
A single column tie, and a 2 rope TK.
(If you don't know these and would like to take the course, please message us).
Number of ropes required
6 (plus a few short bits)
Maximum number of people
8 to 10 couples
